    Lake Erie Bluffs

    Climb the 50-foot observation tower for a 360-degree view over 670 acres of woods, fields and wetlands and 9,000 feet of Lake Erie shoreline. Bald eagles are a regular sight.

    Hogback Ridge Park

    A 1,300-foot accessible boardwalk and overlook deck above the Grand River, a state-designated Wild River, with timber steps down into the floodplain. Four miles from Vincent William.

  3. Geneva · Ohio

    Harpersfield Covered Bridge

    Ohio’s third-longest covered bridge, 228 feet over the Grand River since 1868, with a walkway and a county metropark at its north end for a picnic under the trees.

  4. Geneva · Ohio

    Mechanicsville Covered Bridge

    Believed to be the county’s oldest covered bridge and its longest single span, on a quiet road over the Grand River south-east of Geneva.

    Smolen-Gulf Covered Bridge

    The longest covered bridge in the United States at 613 feet, high above the Ashtabula River gulf, with the Riverview pedestrian covered bridge in the valley below.

Why this route

How we chose these stops.

Ohio DNR forecasts north and central Ohio to peak around the third week of October, and Ashtabula County holds its Covered Bridge Festival on the second weekend of October (October 10–11, 2026). We chose the places near the winery where autumn is the point: covered bridges over the Grand and Ashtabula rivers, a boardwalk above a state-designated Wild River, a 50-foot tower over the lake bluffs, and a state park on the shore. Every figure comes from the park district, the state or the bridge records.
